Glass heart to decorate a headstone
Heart-shaped glass for a headstone is an elegant component for decorating memorials and gravestones. It is made from clear crushed glass, which is then fused so that the pieces bond together and the whole keeps its open, porous structure.
Product description
The glass heart is made of small pieces of crushed glass fused together. Heat treatment takes the sharpness off the fragments and bonds them into one solid body with its characteristic porous surface.
The heart is designed to be set (built in) between two slabs of the stone memorial, or bonded on with a flexible adhesive or silicone. It lets part of the light through, so it looks its best in mounting openings prepared for it, where the sun can shine through the heart, but it also works well fixed directly to the stone tablet.
The heart comes in three sizes: 20 ร 17.5 cm, 25 ร 21.5 cm and 30 ร 26 cm, with a depth of 3 cm.

How long does it take to make a heart?
A glass heart for a headstone usually takes three to six weeks to make, depending on the format and on how much work the glass needs.
What size can I choose for a bespoke order?
We can make pieces as small as about 10โ15 cm wide. The best thing is to contact us and tell us the dimensions you need the heart in.
Is the heart transparent?
No. The heart is not completely transparent. It lets light through, but once it is mounted on a stone tablet you cannot make out the structure of the stone behind it.
Are the pieces of glass sharp?
During heat treatment the pieces of glass partly fuse together and lose their sharpness. They still have small pointed details, of course, but this is nothing like the sharpness of broken glass.
Will the piece be sent by courier?
Yes. Smaller formats go out by standard courier.
How is the glass heart mounted on the headstone?
How it is mounted depends on the design of the memorial. The heart can be:
bonded on with a suitable adhesive, or
set (built in) between stone slabs.
Whichever method you choose, use materials that absorb the stresses that build up at low temperatures, such as flexible adhesives.
Can you make the decoration in another shape?
Yes. From a technical drawing you send us we can make a circle, a cross or any other shape.
