Fired in the kiln, the heart takes on its own shape and depth of colour, and the pattern stays clearly visible. It can be made one-sided, to be bonded onto the memorial, or two-sided, to be built into an opening prepared for it.

Glass heart to decorate a headstone
A glass heart to decorate a headstone is an elegant decorative element for memorials and gravestones. It is made from clear glass fused in a special kiln. The heart has its own shape, a hand-painted pattern and a deep colour that gives every memorial character and a look of its own.

The glass heart is made of clear, fused glass, which is what makes it possible to give it the right shape and size. Each heart is made by hand in our workshop, with the pattern and the colour applied so that the pattern shows very clearly — but the heart itself is not transparent and does not let light through.
That is why it can be made one-sided, to be bonded onto the stone tablet with a flexible adhesive, or two-sided (two hearts joined together), which shows the pattern beautifully from the front and from the back of the memorial once it is set into a slab prepared with an opening for it.
The heart comes in 4 different sizes, and in some cases we can make it in other, bespoke dimensions to suit a particular stonemason’s workshop.

How long does it take to make a heart?
A glass heart for a headstone usually takes three to six weeks to make, depending on the format and on how much work the glass needs.
Is the heart transparent?
No. The heart is not transparent. On the inside it carries a painted colour pattern, which takes away its transparency and, once the heart is bonded to the memorial, hides the stone tablet behind it.
Will the piece be sent by courier?
Yes. Smaller formats go out by standard courier.
How is the glass heart mounted on the headstone?
How it is mounted depends on the design of the memorial. The heart can be:
bonded on with a suitable adhesive, or
set (built in) between stone slabs.
Whichever method you choose, use materials that absorb the stresses that build up at low temperatures, such as flexible adhesives.
Can you make the decoration in another shape?
Yes. From a technical drawing you send us we can make a circle, a cross, decorative strips or any other shape.
