Glass strip – a decoration for a headstone made by fusing ultra-clear glass, with the pattern painted on from the inside. Fired in the kiln, the strip takes on its own shape and depth of colour, and the pattern stays clearly visible. It can be made one-sided, to be bonded onto the memorial, or two-sided, to be built into an opening prepared for it.

Kiln-fused glass
The glass is fired in a kiln until it fuses into a single body, which gives each strip its shape, its thickness and a pattern of its own.
Hand-painted pattern
The pattern is painted on the inner face of the glass and stays clearly visible for years.
The stone stays hidden
The glass is opaque rather than transparent – once it is fixed, the tablet behind it cannot be seen.
One-sided or two-sided
The one-sided strip is 1 cm thick and is bonded on; the two-sided one is 2 cm thick and is built in, so the pattern shows from the front and from the back.

A glass strip to decorate a headstone is an elegant decorative element for memorials and gravestones. It is made from clear glass fused in a special kiln. The strip has its own shape, a hand-painted pattern and a deep colour that gives every memorial character and a look of its own.
Product description
The glass strip is made of clear, fused glass, which is what makes it possible to give the piece the right shape and size. Each strip is made by hand in our workshop, with its own pattern and colour, so that the decoration shows very clearly – and at the same time the glass is not transparent and does not let light through.
That is why it can be made one-sided, to be bonded onto the stone tablet with a flexible adhesive, or two-sided (two strips joined), which shows the pattern beautifully from the front and from the back of the memorial once it is set into a tablet prepared for it.
The strip comes in several standard sizes, and to order we can make the decoration in bespoke dimensions, matched to the needs of a particular memorial mason.

Ordering a glass strip is very simple. Place your order through our online shop or contact us and we will take care of it. We can also prepare a strip in other dimensions, a different width for instance, agreed and quoted beforehand.

How is a glass strip fixed?
The method of fixing follows from the version you choose. The drawing shows six ways of fixing glass to a headstone; for strips we use the first three.
- A Fixed with a flexible MS-polymer adhesive straight onto the face of the tablet – the one-sided version, 1 cm
- B Set into a recess cut into the face of the tablet, then bonded in place
- C Built in between two stone tablets – the two-sided version, 2 cm, seen from both sides
Whichever method of fixing you choose, use a fixing that allows for movement in cold weather, such as a flexible MS-polymer adhesive.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a glass strip for a headstone take to make?
A glass strip for a headstone usually takes three to six weeks to make, depending on the format and on how much work the glass needs.
Is the strip transparent?
No. The strip is not transparent. On the inside it carries a painted colour pattern, which takes away its transparency and, once the strip is bonded to the memorial, hides the stone tablet behind it.
Will the piece be sent by courier?
Yes. We send strips by courier in a purpose-made foam container that protects even the large formats from damage.
How is a decorative strip fixed to a headstone?
How it is fixed depends on the design of the memorial. The glass panel can be:
bonded on with a suitable adhesive, or
set (built in) between stone tablets.
Whichever method you choose, use materials that absorb the stresses that build up at low temperatures, such as flexible adhesives.
Can you make the decoration in another shape?
Yes. From a technical drawing you send us we can make a circle, a cross, a decorative heart or any other shape.
Work like this is prepared together with the memorial mason and is quoted individually every time.
Do you need a strip in a different size?
Strips are 15 cm wide as standard and 55 to 100 cm long, but we make every one to the dimensions given by the memorial mason – shorter, longer or narrower. From a technical drawing we can also prepare a circle, a heart or a cross; work of this kind is quoted individually. Contact us.
